Keeping up with emails, invoices, meetings, and other daily responsibilities can take up a good part of the workday, and to help with that, Anthropic wants to help professionals and small business owners manage some of that workload with Claude Duet, a new AI agent that can identify tasks that need attention and keep working even when users step away.

The new agent, which was launched on October 21, is built on Claude Opus 5.5, Anthropic’s latest top-tier AI model, to help employees and entrepreneurs identify tasks that need attention, manage their daily responsibilities, and handle work that would normally take time and effort.

"It comes to you with what needs your attention, completes tasks you ask of it, keeps working even when you step away, and checks with you before it acts on your behalf," the Claude maker wrote on its website.

I hid a real company inside one test question, and only one of the two Claude models figured out exactly who it was.

What does Claude Duet do?

With how cumbersome individual schedules can be at times and keeping tabs on business operations, the new Claude agent prioritizes your tasks while giving room for other things.

According to the AI lab, the tool is optimized to "decide what needs you, what can wait, and when to check with you first." This makes it easy to delegate tasks without losing oversight.

It also has safety and privacy features. Based on the company's account, Claude Duet uses safeguards to protect login credentials, prevent unauthorised actions, and defend against hidden instructions, while its security systems undergo adversarial testing and external penetration testing.

How it works

Unlike Meta Muse, which is known popularly among X users for shopping even though it can do other tasks, Anthropic says Claude Duet is designed to handle a wider range of business tasks via over 6,000 connectors, from managing emails and tracking unpaid invoices to preparing payroll, drafting job postings, and managing online stores.

It can also work in the background using connected apps and notify users when a task is complete or needs their approval.

From a general standpoint, these features put Claude Duet in the same growing category of AI agents as Meta's Muse and OpenAI's Dot, as technology companies develop tools that can handle tasks on behalf of users rather than simply respond to prompts.
