When Anthropic first previewed Mythos, the reaction online was chaotic. People were genuinely worried about how powerful it might be. So powerful, in fact, that Anthropic never even released it publicly. Mythos stayed in limbo as a model everyone talked about, but no one could touch.
Then came Claude Fable 5, marketed as Mythos-class intelligence, finally available to the public; it was supposed to be the most capable AI you could rent.
But that story didn't last long. On June 12, Anthropic confirmed it had received an export control directive from the US government, forcing it to suspend both Fable 5 and Mythos-class systems entirely.
And just like that, the frontier shifted again. What's left now is a more practical question. If Fable 5 is gone, what should you actually use instead?
