India’s leading telecom operator, Bharti Airtel announced today that it has crossed 50 million subscribers in Africa.

Bharti currently operates in a total of 19 countries across Asia and Africa and with over 230 million subscribers is the world’s fifth-biggest mobile operator (by subscribers).

Last year, the company acquired mobile operations in 15 countries in a $9 billion deal. The company targets 100 million customers in Africa by the end of March 2013.
