Artificial intelligence has come to us at a very peculiar time. And depending on what you think about what porn has done to us as a society, the debate over restrictions on 'adult mode' might be a blessing or a curse. Let me tell you what the data says. Many people have fallen into deep loneliness, and porn is to blame for this, among other things. Also, many people say their sex lives have become better, and porn is a key factor.

Unlike the first time when we discovered the internet and the floodgates were open, this time, more people are a bit on edge. People who say that it has made their lives better can’t wait for all the agentic models that will be made, bringing their realities to life. People raising the alarm about loneliness and depression that can be a side effect have put pressure on AI companies to roll out more moderation to protect young people from the effects of chronic pornography watching.

This week, a new update from OpenAI signals where progress is on the issue. The company said that it will strip ChatGPT’s upcoming “adult mode” of its ability to generate images, voice, or video, limiting the controversial feature to text-only erotic conversations after the company’s age-verification system failed to properly identify minors 12% of the time. If anything at all, it tells us we might be far from a conclusion on what porn will look like in the age of AI.

Also this week, OpenAI said it will merge three different apps—ChatGPT, Codex, and Atlas—together, bringing its AI coding assistance, chatbot, and browser into a single power app.
