The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), in a post on its X page on August 9, announced that it is deploying a dedicated Passport Intervention Team from its headquarters in Abuja to the United Kingdom to support the processing and issuance of pending, new, and renewal passport applications for Nigerians in the diaspora. This means that Nigerians living in the United Kingdom will soon have access to a dedicated passport intervention exercise.
Directed by the Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, through the Comptroller-General of Immigration, KN Nandap, “The Intervention Team is scheduled to arrive in the United Kingdom on 10th August, 2026, and will work in collaboration with the Nigerian High Commission to facilitate the processing and issuance of pending, new and renewal passport applications,” the statement read
What Applicants Need To Know?
According to the NIS, the team will visit designated cities across the UK to conduct passport enrolment and processing. This is intended to give “eligible applicants in different parts of the country access to the exercise,” the post stated.
Applicants eligible for the exercise include those with pending passport applications, first-time applicants, and Nigerians whose passports have less than one year remaining before expiry and are due for renewal. For those taking part in the exercise, they will need to present their completed application forms and proof of payment during enrolment.
