The surge in Nigeria's internet bandwidth and data storage requirements, driven by the arrival of eight high-capacity subsea cables in the terabits per second (Tbps) range, has triggered a significant influx of data that needs effective management and storage solutions.

Recognizing this opportunity, investors are beginning to pour funds into building larger data centres to meet the anticipated demand. Companies like the Open Data Access Centre (OADC) are at the forefront of this investment wave, building a data centre with a capacity of 24 megawatts of power.

Another company leading the charge is Kasi Cloud Limited, which has begun the construction of its $250 million hyperscale data centre in Lekki, Lagos, modeled after the 2022 Silicon Valley technology parks.

Also, Rack Centre, a Tier III data centre company is building a 12-megawatt IT data centre in Ikeja, Lagos situated on a 20,000 square meter green field site over 30 meters above sea level.

Others like Airtel have also contributed a data centre with a total capacity of 180 megawatts distributed across 13 major data centres and over 48 Edge data centres.

With data centres expanding their capacities to accommodate the data influx these not only cater to domestic companies but also position Nigeria as a regional hub for cloud computing and other data-intensive services.
