OnePlus 15 ColorOS Beta: Everything We Know About the India Rollout

For lovers of OxygenOS, it is time to start saying your goodbyes. The operating system is officially being phased out in favor of ColorOS, the primary interface developed by OnePlus’s parent company, OPPO

Reports indicate that OnePlus has begun closed beta testing for ColorOS on the OnePlus 15 and OnePlus 15R in India, offering a select group of users their first real look at what this software shift will entail.

The closed beta opened on August 6 with limited availability for Indian variants of the two smartphones. OnePlus offered 300 places for the flagship OnePlus 15 and another 300 slots for the OnePlus 15R. To qualify, applicants needed a registered OnePlus Community account, device eligibility checks, a signed Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA), and active participation in a dedicated Telegram group.

Why OnePlus Is Making This Change

In July, alongside news of OnePlus scaling back operations in North American and European markets, the company confirmed its plan to retire OxygenOS globally in favor of ColorOS. In an official statement, OnePlus cited streamlined development, accelerated update cycles, and better software quality as the core drivers:

"As part of an operational adjustment to our software strategy, OnePlus devices will update from OxygenOS to ColorOS. This software update enables us to streamline software development, accelerate update cycles to our community, improve software quality, and make better use of our shared engineering and R&D capabilities," OnePlus said in a statement.

From a technical perspective, the consolidation makes sense. Since 2021, OxygenOS and ColorOS have shared the same underlying codebase. Maintaining two separate engineering teams, design systems, and software pipelines for what was fundamentally similar code became increasingly redundant in an industry constrained by higher component costs and tighter margins.
