Riot Games is ending active development on 2XKO in December 2026, bringing an early end to its plans for the League of Legends fighting game.

The decision does not mean 2XKO is shutting down. Riot says the game will remain playable after development ends, with its servers staying online on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.

Instead, 2XKO is moving from an actively supported live-service game into a long-term maintenance phase. Riot will spend the rest of 2026 delivering content already in development, making balance adjustments and fixing bugs before active development concludes.

The decision follows months of monitoring player retention, engagement and the game's financial performance. While 2XKO built a dedicated fighting game community and saw strong bursts of activity around new characters, modes and competitive events, Riot says those spikes did not translate into sustainable long-term growth.

Riot says the game costs substantially more to operate than it generates, while overall engagement has remained relatively flat despite major updates.

Here's everything you need to know about 2XKO's development ending in December 2026, including its final champions, refunds, ranked mode, esports plans and what happens after development stops.

When will 2XKO stop receiving active development?

Riot will end active development on 2XKO at the end of December 2026.

The remaining months will focus on content already in production, balance changes and bug fixes. Riot currently plans to release a final bug-fix patch, Patch 1.3.5, in December if necessary.
