The long-quiet development of Star Wars Eclipse has resurfaced with a fresh update from Quantic Dream, confirming that the project is still in active development, even as the studio undergoes a major internal restructuring.
The reassurance comes at a turbulent moment for the studio, following the cancellation of its multiplayer title Spellcasters Chronicles just months after its early access launch.
Studio Confirms Star Wars Eclipse Is Unaffected
Despite concerns that the shakeup could slow down or derail other projects, Quantic Dream has explicitly stated that development on Star Wars Eclipse will continue as planned.
The update was issued alongside news that Spellcasters Chronicles, a 3v3 multiplayer MOBA-style game, is being shut down after failing to build a sustainable player base during early access.

“In today’s particularly challenging market environment, [Spellcasters Chronicles] has not reached the audience it needed to ensure its long-term sustainability,” the studio explained.
“We have therefore made the difficult decision to refocus our efforts on our other projects.”
Importantly, the studio added that the transition will include an “internal reorganization,” but emphasized that ongoing projects, including Star Wars Eclipse, remain unaffected.
What Happened to Spellcasters Chronicles?
Spellcasters Chronicles launched into early access on February 26, aiming to offer a more accessible twist on the traditional MOBA formula. Players engaged in 3v3 battles using a roster of magical characters designed around strategic, team-based combat.
However, the game struggled to gain traction. With only a few hundred Steam reviews and a “mixed” reception, it failed to build the long-term audience needed for continued support.
Quantic Dream has confirmed the game will remain playable until June 19, when servers will officially shut down. Players who made purchases during early access will be eligible for refunds.
What It Means for Star Wars Eclipse
The reassurance around Star Wars Eclipse is particularly significant because the game has remained largely silent since its reveal at The Game Awards in 2021.
Set in the era of the High Republic, the project was originally described as an ambitious branching narrative experience within the Star Wars universe, consistent with Quantic Dream’s cinematic storytelling style seen in titles like Detroit: Become Human.
Since its announcement, however, updates have been scarce, leading to ongoing speculation about its development status.
This latest confirmation suggests the project is still moving forward internally, even if its public visibility remains minimal.
Live-Service Struggles Continue Across the Industry
The cancellation of Spellcasters Chronicles also reflects a broader trend across 2026, where several live-service and multiplayer titles have struggled to find stable audiences in an increasingly competitive market.
Even with innovative mechanics and accessible design goals, many new online games are finding it difficult to break through established giants and long-running franchises.
For Quantic Dream, the shift appears to signal a renewed focus on fewer, more established projects, with Star Wars Eclipse remaining the studio’s most high-profile upcoming release.
Despite the reassurance, there is still no confirmed release date or gameplay showcase for Star Wars Eclipse. The game remains one of the most mysterious ongoing projects in the Star Wars gaming lineup.
