The Ted Lasso Season 4 finale leaves AFC Richmond in a very different place from where the season began.

In the latest episode, “Being Alive”, Roy Kent accepts a head coaching job at Chelsea, Alice Chilton takes charge of the Lady Greyhounds, and Ted Lasso and Coach Beard move into assistant manager roles.

Rebecca Welton also secures her future as Richmond’s majority owner, while Keeley Jones is expecting a baby with Roy and the club community deals with the loss of Crown & Anchor owner Mae Greene.

Apple TV has not officially renewed Ted Lasso for Season 5, but the finale leaves several storylines open. If another season happens, these changes could give the show a very different starting point.

Why Ted Lasso Season 4 Was Filmed in a Hospice
An unused wing at a UK hospice was transformed into a Ted Lasso Season 4 set, giving the production an authentic location and the charity a new source of income.

Roy Kent Has a New Club to Manage

Roy accepting Chelsea’s head coaching job could be one of the major changes if the story continues. He is leaving the Richmond dressing room for a club where he once played, giving him a very different environment to manage.

This also gives Roy a chance to prove himself after spending much of the season questioning whether management was right for him. At Richmond, he had people around him who understood his personality and supported him.

Chelsea brings bigger expectations and a new set of challenges. His move could also create an interesting connection between Chelsea and Richmond without turning the show into a straightforward football rivalry.

Alice Is Finally Ready To Lead

Alice's promotion may be the most important change for Richmond's future. Throughout Season 4, Ted has helped her develop as a coach while also learning that his job is not to solve every problem himself. By the finale, Alice is promoted to head coach of the women's team, with Ted and Beard becoming her assistants.

This gives the show a way to continue without simply putting Ted back at the centre of everything. Alice has her own coaching style and her own relationship with the players, so Season 5 could explore what happens when the person who spent the season learning from Ted finally has to make the big decisions herself.
