VIDEO: How to Use Sora in ChatGPT to Create Realistic AI Images
You don't have to take my word for it. See it in action and try it out.
If you’ve been exploring ChatGPT lately, you might have come across Sora, OpenAI’s powerful video generation model that can produce eerily realistic scenes from simple text prompts.
While Sora’s groundbreaking video functionality remains behind a paywall, exclusively available to ChatGPT Plus ($20/month) and ChatGPT Pro ($200/month) subscribers—the good news is that free users can still access a taste of this realism by generating high-quality images with the same model integration powering Sora’s visuals.
Here’s how it works and how you can get started.

Steps to use Sora inside ChatGPT

Step 1: Head over to chat.openai.com or open the ChatGPT app and log in to your account.
Step 2: On the left-hand side of your screen, above your chat history, you’ll see a new option labeled “Sora.” Click on it.
This will launch a dedicated workspace: Sora’s own mini web app inside ChatGPT.
Step 3: Choose between “Image” or “Video.”
Inside Sora, you’ll find options like:
- Images
- Videos (video access may be restricted based on your plan)
- Explore, Top, and Likes
Click “Image” to proceed if you're a free user.

Step 4: Enter your prompt and tap generate image
Keep it clear and specific—you don’t need to be overly poetic.
For example: “A parkour gymnast running and flipping across the rooftops of a city at sunset, cinematic style.”
- Sora will turn that single line into a vivid, realistic image in seconds.
- You can access the image when you click the "Activity" notifications.
Step 5: Select the image that fits your wants.
Once you click the activity icon, the image variations generated will be displayed. Tap on the image and select the one that fits your style.
Step 6: Download your Image
Click the download button (usually a little arrow or icon with a line under it), and it’ll save the image to your device.
Conclusion
While the Sora video generator is still largely out of reach for free users, OpenAI has opened the doors to remarkable image generation features right inside ChatGPT. And in my opinion, Sora's image generation seems better than Firefly's. You don't have to take my word for it—just try tossing the same prompt into both and see what comes out.
