You can now share Spotify songs with sound on Instagram
No more having to jump between apps just to know what the song sounds like.
For years, sharing songs from Spotify to Instagram Stories felt a little flat. Sure, you could post the album cover and a link, but there was no audio, no vibe, no moment, just a pretty image with a redirect. But now, that’s changing. Instagram is finally letting users share playable previews of Spotify tracks directly to Stories.
This means if you're listening to a song on Spotify and share it to your Story, your followers can tap and hear a short snippet right there on Instagram, no more jumping between apps. It’s a small but meaningful update that could make music discovery more social, more seamless, and maybe even more fun.

It also makes sense when you consider the broader landscape. Instagram's rival, TikTok, has become a powerhouse for music discovery, influencing global charts and helping underground artists go viral. Instagram’s move could be a little response to that shift, even though it's probably not going to be nearly as impactful. With Meta, Instagram's parent company, already experimenting with music in Instagram Notes, users stream songs to followers in real time, this new Story feature could help turn Instagram into more of a music-sharing hub.

Using the feature is easy. Just open the Spotify app on your phone and find the song (or podcast) you want to share. Tap the share icon on the “Now Playing” screen and select “Instagram Stories.” Spotify will open Instagram, drop the album art into a Story, and include an audio snippet. You can then add stickers, text, or GIFs before posting like usual.
The preview plays automatically when someone views the Story, giving the post more context and personality. It’s a much more immersive experience than before, and for creators and artists, it’s a new way to promote music without asking followers to click out of the app.
So what does this mean overall? Well, it's a step forward for both Spotify and Instagram, and it makes sharing music a lot more dynamic. It's also a way for Instagram to hold onto users a little longer, giving them less reason to hop over to another app just to hear a song. Whether you’re showing off your current mood or putting friends onto new tracks, this update brings sound to the Stories, and with it, a lot more soul.
