Google is about to show whether its next big laptop idea can actually live up to the hype. The company has set September 15, 2026, for a New York City showcase dedicated to Googlebook, its new laptop platform built around Gemini and an Android-based foundation.
That date matters because Googlebook has so far existed mostly as a collection of promises, demos, and leaked hardware. Google first introduced it in May, describing it as a new category of laptops that brings together Android and Chrome.
The September event should give us the clearest picture yet of what Google actually wants Googlebook to be.
According to the invitation reported by Chrome Unboxed, Google will hold a keynote covering the platform’s software, Gemini features, and Android foundation. Journalists are also expected to get hands-on time with hardware from Google’s manufacturing partners.
That last part could be more important than another Gemini demonstration.

Google has confirmed Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP and Lenovo as partners for the first generation of Googlebooks. Recent leaks have already shown Lenovo and ASUS machines, including premium designs with Google’s distinctive Glowbar.
After months of seeing these machines through leaks, September should finally answer what they feel like to use.
