When ASUS announced the ROG Xbox Ally X20 in June, most of the conversation was around the bundle, not even the OLED screen or the redesigned controls.
The handheld was introduced alongside the ROG XREAL R1 Edition 20 AR Glasses, leaving many gamers wondering why they had to buy an expensive accessory they didn't necessarily want just to get ASUS' latest handheld.
Now, ASUS has changed course. The company's spokesperson, Anthony Spence, confirmed that the ROG Xbox Ally X20 will also be available as a standalone device, although it has yet to announce a launch date or price.
For anyone who wanted the handheld but had little interest in portable AR gaming, that's easily the biggest update since the device was first announced.
Here's everything else we know so far about the device.

/1. The OLED upgrade is the headline hardware change
If you've been following the ROG Ally lineup, you'll know one request has come up repeatedly: an OLED screen. And the X20 finally delivers it.
The handheld features a 7.4-inch OLED display with HDR support, a 1920 × 1080 resolution, a 30Hz to 120Hz variable refresh rate, anti-glare glass, and up to 1,400 nits of peak brightness. That should translate into deeper blacks, richer colours, and noticeably better visibility outdoors than previous LCD models.
