The space tourism industry is officially open for business – but it is here with a hefty price tag.

Despite reluctance from NASA, the journey towards democratizing access to space is moving faster. And while past recreational space trips have laid the foundation, with a few commercial trips as far back as the 2000s, the true potential of this nascent industry might just be beginning to unfold.

Leading this charge is British billionaire businessman, Richard Branson's space company, Virgin Galactic which achieved a historic milestone last Thursday. The successful flight aboard its VSS Unity spacecraft (tagged Galactic 02 mission) marks a pivotal moment in space tourism.
