There’s something satisfying about finishing a game and seeing that final achievement pop. After hours of exploration, difficult boss fights, and whatever other challenges a developer throws at you, that little notification is a reminder that you’ve seen almost everything a game has to offer.
But Xbox has never really had a proper equivalent to PlayStation’s Platinum Trophy. That could be about to change.
A discovery in the Xbox PC app has revealed what appears to be the symbol and unlock sound for an upcoming Mythic Achievement. More importantly, further digging into the app’s code suggests players may not need to complete a game’s DLC to earn one.
That’s a significant detail for anyone who enjoys hunting down every achievement in their Xbox library.

What is the Xbox Mythic Achievement?
The Mythic Achievement is believed to be Xbox’s answer to the Platinum Trophy on PlayStation: a special reward for completing a game’s original achievement set.
Xbox boss Asha Sharma previously hinted that a Platinum Trophy-style feature was in development, and a recent discovery in the Xbox PC app appeared to identify it as a Mythic Achievement.
The latest information comes from Xbox community researcher Klobrille, who shared a first look at the Mythic symbol and its unlock sound on September 22.
“A new update for the Xbox PC App reveals: Xbox Mythic Achievement; plus symbol and unlock sound”, Klobrille tweeted.

Klobrille also suggested that the Mythic Achievement could be a 100% game completion reward.
The important caveat is that Xbox has not officially confirmed the Mythic Achievement or explained how it will work. For now, the feature is being pieced together from app discoveries, Xbox Insider information, and community research.

What does the Xbox Mythic Achievement sound like?
The symbol is one thing, but the unlock sound is what caught my attention.
The audio shared by Klobrille has the kind of satisfying payoff you want from a completion reward. It sounds like something designed to make finishing a game feel a little more special than unlocking an ordinary achievement.
Visually, the Mythic icon appears fairly straightforward. That isn't necessarily a bad thing. The real appeal of a completion achievement isn't how elaborate the icon looks; it's the number of games you've managed to finish.
And if Xbox gets the reward system right, that sound could become instantly recognisable to achievement hunters.
Do you need DLC to unlock an Xbox Mythic Achievement?
No, based on the latest code discovery, DLC achievements may not count toward a Mythic Achievement. This is the most useful detail to emerge so far.
Researchers at XCT.live dug into the Xbox app and found information about how Mythic achievements appear to be organised.
According to their findings, the app uses a group called BaseGame to determine Mythic progress. The group contains achievements from the original game, while achievements outside that group are labelled Add-on.
The Xbox app also reportedly includes a “Required for Mythic achievement” filter on the game page.
In other words, the system appears to separate the achievements that count toward the Mythic reward from those added through DLC.
That would mean you could complete the original game, unlock its Mythic Achievement, and move on without having to purchase or finish every expansion.
For players with large Xbox libraries, that distinction matters. Some games have dozens of DLC achievements, and requiring every single one could turn a satisfying completion goal into a much longer commitment.
How would the Xbox Mythic Achievement work?
Based on the information uncovered by XCT.live, the process could look something like this:
- Open a game on Xbox.
- View the achievements required for its Mythic Achievement.
- Complete every achievement in the original game.
- Unlock the Mythic Achievement once the required set is finished.
The app reportedly counts achievements rather than Gamerscore, which is another important distinction.
