Tanzania’s government has signed into law a new regulation that will govern social media and blogging in the country.

The regulation known as Electronic and Postal Communications (Online Content) Regulations 2017 will charge a license fee for operating online radio stations, video (TV) websites in the country. Also, bloggers will be required to pay a license fee to blog as well as annual fees.

The government says the new regulation will help to put a stop to the “moral decadence” caused by social media and the internet in the country, as it considers social media a threat to Tanzania’s national security.
