WhatsApp's New Status Update Tray Feature is Rolling Out to More Beta Users

The feature was initially shown back in February by a WhatsApp beta release, which featured a redesigned status tray inside the updates tab.

It seems that WhatsApp is releasing more features than we can keep up with. The messaging app would soon take the wraps off a new feature – a new status update tray feature – to more beta users before making it available to everyone globally.

This feature was initially shown back in February by a WhatsApp beta release, which featured a redesigned status tray inside the updates tab.

From what we know so far, the new status update feature has a rectangular shape compared to its previous circular version, which now allows you to have a preview of a contact's status update so that you know what to expect when you decide to engage with it.

Also, the new feature is available in version 2.24.10.10 of WhatsApp beta for Android, with WhatsApp working to make it available to more beta users on Android so that they can provide feedback on whether it is a good enough feature to roll out to its main app or not.

However, one important question that WhatsApp will have to answer is how it plans to allot the perfect space for the rectangular status update feature without it eating into a major part of the screen and potentially affecting the space for channel subscriptions, making the Updates section look clunky.

This is a discussion that the WhatsApp team will need to have if they intend to release a new feature that sits well with over 2.78 billion users globally, per data from Verloop.io.
