The European Union's executive arm, the European Commission, has banned the social media app, TikTok on official devices used by staff amid concerns over cybersecurity, according to a report by Reuters.

According to the report, the ban also implies that European Commission staff cannot use the Chinese-owned video-sharing app on personal devices, including phones, that have official apps installed.

This ban deals another blow to the social media giant after the U.S. Congress passed a bill in December 2022 to ban TikTok on federal devices, however, this bill is yet to be signed off on by President Joe Biden.

Other countries including Taiwan, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and India have also implemented a partial or complete ban on TikTok amidst cybersecurity concerns.
